My Story: Coach Liburd
Growing up in East London, I had the opportunity to play for some of the countries most influential coaches, such as Newham Youngbloods founder Caroline Charles, and the legendary Humph Long. Those experiences gave me the drive to pursue basketball whilst in Higher Education, so I traveled to the USA as a 19 year old scholarship athlete gaining invaluable experience. It was here that I began my coaching career once my playing career ended due to injury, coaching within high schools, AAU teams and eventually as a college coach and Athletic Director.
Returning to the UK following 14 years in the USA, I have coached for 9 seasons in the WBBL (Women's British Basketball League), 6 of those years as a Head Coach. I have worked with 4 scoring champions, the leagues all time leading shot blocker, 4 rebounding leaders, 1 player of the year and 1 WBBL young player of the year. Alongside this I have lead one of the leading Women's Elite Academy programs, Nottingham Academy Wildcats, turning around a program who had just 3 wins in the 2 years prior to my arrival, to a team that was crowned back to back Northern conference champions with an unbeaten season culminating with a place in the National Final.
One of my greatest honours has been coaching GB youth national teams for 8 years, 5 of those years as a Head Coach working with the U16, U18 and U20's teams. This work has resulted in me coaching in 6 European Championships and having a hand in developing some of the countries leading talent, working with a number of players supporting them to obtain US and UK scholarships to continue their basketball careers.
My time in the UK has also included working with a U18 boys development team leading them to a 17-1 record as league runners up, establishing a new ABL program around London, leading two Regional Development Centres for Basketball England, and coaching the London region development team to a tournament championship, resulting in 7 players being selected to the national team squad.
I am a teacher at my core, with a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Education and a Masters degree in Leadership. I believe in the development of people and strive to build players that not only can contribute to the basketball community, but can also use their talents to impact their societies.
A true "Girl Dad" of two brilliant daughters, trying to impact my surroundings one day at a time through the game of basketball.

"My daughter, at the age of 14 came in contact with Coach Kenrick via the GB national team trials in 2019. Without knowing too much about her, Coach Kenrick quickly assessed her abilities and saw something in her that he liked. His approach to coaching and introducing her into the group was extremely thoughtful and thorough. Being a shy girl, she was someone that needed encouragement to mix and socialise with the group which coach facilitated positively.
The way in which Coach Kenrick gave her the opportunity to show what she could do was well thought out and executed extremely well. He has shown that he will give individuals opportunities to thrive, flourish and grow, and that is what my daughter did under his watchful eye.
Coach has challenged and encouraged my daughter to develop her game and has also shown that he has compassion and genuine care for his players both on and off the court. He has also been generous with his time in terms of advice and guidance to us as parents for our daughter’s onward basketball journey. He has given invaluable advice about how to and what to look for in terms of seeking opportunities for college scholarships. He is clearly knowledgeable about the process, and we have been grateful of his experience, knowledge, and advice.
Our daughter has just started a college scholarship in the US and we are grateful to him for giving our daughter the opportunity to start her basketball journey in this manner. He has shown trust and faith in her which has allowed her to flourish at home in the UK and now in the US for the next steps in her basketball journey."
